My Oxfordshire based client is seeking a Development Scientist to be part of their R and D team contributing to the development of new and existing products. This will be a hands-on role requiring both a strong understanding of the physics underpinning their technology and the practical ability to build and test prototype components. Role Responsibilities: Development of new methods and instrumentation for HV and UHV applications; Continuous improvement of existing methods; Preparing technical reports and papers; Technical support of Sales, Engineering,nstrumentation; Experience with vacuum coating techniques; Problem solving and creative thinking; Ability to run your own projects without supervision; Proven track record in Design of Experiment and timely project delivery; Strong affinity for mechanical and electronic design; Excellent communicating and mentoring skills; Good commercial awareness and ability to interact directly with customers globally. It would be desirable if you had knowledge of numerical modelling techniques such as FEM and also instrument design using SolidWorks. Qualifications and Experience: PhD or equivalent experience in a physics or engineering discipline; Minimum 3 years hands-on experience with UHV equipment. Candidates with a background in commercial development of high tech instrumentation will be at an advantage. Hours of work: 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am to 1.00pm Friday.
